Celebration of Feast at Church of St. Francis Xavier Mississauga – Canada.

The Feast – an auspicious day for Goans started with a Solemn Service being held in the Church of St. Francis Xavier in Mississauga, where the celebrant was Rev. Fr. Terence D’Souza - the Parish Priest.

Amid the pomp and splendour of the Knights of Columbus, led by Anthony D’Souza, who formed an armed guard, the ceremonies began with a majestic Procession. People were also extremely impressed with the Choir co-ordinated by Romeo Remedios and Ruth Kumar, whose Konkani rendition of the Mass was exemplary.

All of this was followed by a Fiesta in true Goan style at the St.Francis Xavier Catholic School Hall. More than 700 people attended the Fiesta where over 30 stalls were set up by Goan business men and women, displaying a stunning variety of Goan wares, delicacies and of course Goan Food, not the least of which was a fascinating variety of traditional Christmas specialities or kuswar as it is popularly known.

With two live bands the Schmooze, led by Saby Patrick, and Blindfold Test, led by Ignatius Vaz and three talented DJs, Tony Rodrigues, Ossie Patel and Ashley D’Costa in attendance, the hall resounded with the music, reminiscent of Goa.

There were also cultural dance entertainers, The Extross Dance Group who were a great hit, while a young teenage group, the Coelhos performed a Spanish/Portuguese Dance recital.

Truly, what more could one ask for on a Single Day of entertainment, nostalgia and pure Fun? …….Nothing!!

The proceeds of the Feast Day are to go towards the Church building of The Church of St.Francis D’Costa does ends up as a charitable venture. The good news is that this event is destined to become an annual event under the banner of "Friends of St.Francis Xavier" of which Francis D’Costa is the President today and has been nominated for an on going tenure, spanning the next three years.
