The Goan Overseas Association's 6th Viva Goa Festival this year will also be a celebration of World Goa Day initiated by Rene Barreto of the UK.

The Goan Overseas Association's 6th Viva Goa Festival this year will also be a celebration of Goa Day initiated by Rene Barreto of the UK.

A Flyer at http://www.goatoronto.com/events/2003/vivagoa/main.html gives details on how to get there and lists the schedule of sports events which start at 10.00 am. The show events officially open at 12.00 noon.
The 30+ stalls include Goan Foods and treats, Arts and Crafts, real estate, travel, and those of the mainstream banks, the principal sponsors of the event.

Goan foods to be tasted include fish curry, biryani, Goa sausages, sorpotel, pilau, vindaloo and a host of other treats.

The show events will be followed the inter-village soccer final at 6.00p.m.
with the dance portion continuing till 1.00 a.m. Downsview Park will also be the venue of the Rolling Stones concert on July 30, 2003. Viva Goa attendees will be able to see ongoing preparations but parking could be a problem.

Statistics Point to Improving Canadian economy
OTTAWA - The prospects for the Canadian economy got a double boost Wednesday when Statistics Canada released its composite leading index and investment intentions reports. With the exception of manufacturing, the leading index, which provides an early estimate of economic performance, rose in June. And with the exception of high tech and communications, capital investment is expected to rise much faster this year than Statistics Canada reported in February.

Tanzanite Picnic In Toronto

More than 500 people enjoyed themselves at the Tanzanite picnic held at Etobicoke's Centennial Park. People traveled from Montreal, Calgary, all parts of the US and the UK to meet old friends and make new ones. There were also half a dozen people who came all the way from Tanzania for the event.
The day started with games for kids of every age group from 1 to 13 years. This was followed by competitions where parents and their child formed a team to compete against other parents/children. Lunch was then served! $5 bought one a tandoori chicken quarter with a pita and salad.
After lunch, the ever popular tug-of-war competition between the married and singles got fought over. The most popular event was the volleyball competition which went on throughout the day. After the volleyball finals in the evening, trophies were presented to every winner of every competition. Tea and mandazi's were then served. The day wound up with a round of tambola
