Fifty
Indian models will display the ready to wear collections
from 56 Indian designers at the Indian Fashion Week
which begins in Bombay on 18 July. Figuring among
them is the stunning and ambitous super model, Diandra
Soares, who has carved her niche in India's modelling
scene. She was Miss Bombay '95, had her first ad
film in Dinesh Suitings, and has catwalked in the
most prestigious ramp shows. She has modeled in
commercials for Tips and Toes, VIP underwear, Tillsbury
whiskey and music videos for Ila Arun (Kichdi),
Jalwa, Jadoo and Bali Bramhabhatt's remix album.
Famed for her ringleted locks, Diandra appeared
shaved off completely, bold and beautiful for the
climax of a Sosa's fashion show at Tito's in Baga-Calangute,
dressed in a Saviojon outfit, on November 27, 2002.
The bold trendsetter aspires to make it to the London
ramp sooner or later. The leading models are reportedly
getting together as Models United, led by Diandra,
to fight against harassment and payment delays,
which are said to be common in their profession.

You shouldn't have to wait till after you have had by-pass
heart surgery as I did to find out that you have been
at risk for heart problems as Asian Indians generally
are. "In India," Dr. Prakash C. Deedwania, cardiologist
at UCSF, Freshno, tells us "cardiovascular disease
is already the No.1 cause of death." "It is
unbelievable," says Dr. Kanu Chatterjee, cardiologist
at the UC, San Francisco, "the number of young in
their 30s and 40s who are dying of heart attacks. Its
an epidemic in India."
