Goa Government Plans Overseas Goan Meet the second week of January 2004.
All NRIs visiting Goa over Christmas should consider extending their stay for a few more days into the new year to attend this all important meet. The NRI Cell seems very serious about listening to the needs of the NRI Goans and are trying hard to address them through a "single window" concept.

Lots of issues have already been discussed and action plans are already in process - but the most important thing is that the NRI cell needs to hear from overseas Goans. The website to visit for more information is www.nrigoa.com. This website will be updated regularly and all NRIs are requested to bookmark this site and visit it regularly for the latest news.

Many comments have been received on making this site current with latest developments affecting NRI Goans. These are being reviewed an many will be implemented.

One area of success for the NRI cell is the SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEME FOR GOAN NRI's. It has been implemented already and has been received very favourably by the Gulf NRIs. Many more plans to help NRI Goans will be implemented but input from Goans is very essential. If the NRI Cell is to act on important issues, the "level of chatter" needs to be high on these issues like, for example, ancestral property issues being lost to others with forged documents . On this particular point an action was placed on the Chief Secretary, to amend the current procedures so that these issues do not have to automatically go to court (a very long process in India) to be resolved.
They should empower the local authorities at the Telathi level to resolve these issues. Also necessary for them to conduct this duty is the infrastructure needed. This needs some attention and upgradation
