Canada's
Public service mired in racism, Senator charges
Canada's public service is racist and the Martin government
should appoint a commissioner, similar to the one enforcing
the Official Languages Act, to make sure more visible minorities
are hired, a black Conservative senator charges. In a blunt
speech in the Senate recently, Senator Donald Oliver said
there are major hurdles in the public service preventing
the advancement of "Canadians of colour.". See

iron ore exports touch a new high
The iron ore exports from Goa have touched an all time high,
in terms of quantity, during the financial year 2003-2004,
to 30.7 million tonne, a net increase of over 50 per cent
of the total iron ore exported from the country amounting
to 60 million tonne. A Goa Mineral Ore Exporters Association
source pointed out that the rise in iron ore exports was
mainly due to the increase in demand from China…India
is the third largest exporter of iron ore after Australia
and Brazil, who together constitute almost 70 per cent of
the total iron ore exports in the global market.

Thank You Note
The
"That's What Friends are For Committee" would
like to thank all those of you who overwhelming supported
our fundraising dinner/dance for Alison D'Silva on April
24, 2004. We couldn't have done it without you.
We would like to thank all those who so generously donated
prizes and cash, and our guest artists for their wonderful
performances.
We would
especially like to thank our volunteers who were happy to
be part of the team. It was heart warming that Alison was
present along with her parents Rolina & John & sister
Caroline. Alison's speech touched all our hearts.
The
love, warmth and support we felt in the room that night
and through out the time we were organizing the function
was amazing.
A very
big thank you to my Committee who worked tirelessly to make
this happen. - Sara & Raymond Ferrao, Clara & Danny

The
Benefits of Beer
From: http://www.healthyontario.com/english/index.asp
Web site by Ontario Government voted best in world for Health
Information
Beer
drinking may lead to more than just a beer belly.
According to the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and
Policy at Tufts University, beer contains high levels of
an ingredient that helps deposit calcium and other minerals
into bone tissue.
And a recent study found the antioxidants present in dark
beer help prevent clogged arteries, which should reduce
the risk of heart disease.
Most
research showed the optimum benefits can be reaped with
up to one drink a day for women and up to two a day for
men.
Still,
it's a good idea to take a look at the size of your beer
belly before you knock back a pint or two. The extra calories
found in beer may cancel out any health benefits.
