Singles agree: love, not money, conquers all
NEW YORK, April 19 /CNW/ - Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston have spent more time on the gossip pages than in the music charts due to their numerous brushes with addiction. Whitney is now back in Bobby's arms after a stint in rehab. Based on this scenario Date.com, a leading online dating site, asked its members: Why would you stay with a mate who was 'troubled'?
Members were given the choice of: Sex, Love, Money, Companionship and Self-torture.
The top choice was "love", with 37 percent of women and 36 percent of men citing it as their reason to stay with a troubled mate.
Perhaps not surprisingly, "sex" was in second place for 24 percent of women and 25 percent of men.
The numbers stayed tied or almost tied for the remaining choices as well. "Self-torture" was favored by 18 percent of women and 17 percent of men. "Companionship" was in fourth place with 13 percent of women and 14 percent of men. At the bottom was "money", which tied at 8 percent for both sexes.
"The Date.com results are a good indication of how big the role of love is in relationships", said Brenda Ross, relationship advisor for Date.com.
"No matter what someone's faults may be, when your heart is in it, you're more likely to forgive them because of the love you feel no matter what the consequences are," she added.
This poll generated 2129 respondents.
