The
13 Anthonys' Celebration of the Feast of St. Anthony
The feast of St. Anthony was celebrated 24 years ago by
Francis and Lucy Fernandes in honour of their son Anders
Anthony . That's when a membership was formed by 13 men
from different families with the names of Anthony, and
continued over the years with each one celebrating the
feast at their homes.
The first mass was celebrated by Fr. Terence D'Souza (now
Monsignor), in Mississauga, Ontario, at the house of Lucy
and Francis.
The 13 Anthonys were:
Anders Anthony (Francis/Lucy)
Anthony Fernandes (Tina)
Anthony Fernandes (Annie)
Anthony Fernandes (Viven)
Anthony Fernandes(Marfie)
Anthony Mendonca (Clara)*
Roque Anthony Fernandes
Peter Anthony Fernandes
Elias Anthony Fernandes
Avelino Anthony Gonsalves
Fernando Anthony Barretto*
Jason Anthony Barretto
Jono Anthony D'Souza
Anthony Rodrigues
* since deceased
This year was special for Tony and Tina, who not only
celebrated the feast, but also their 40th Wedding anniversary
with their relatives and friends, including the Anthonys'.
Mass was celebrated open-air at their Markham home, by
Father Cecil Noronha.
Next year, the 25th year will celebrated by the youngest
member, Jason Barreto.

Desalination
Desalination-turning
salt water into fresh, is often preached as the saviour
to Australia's water shortage. But how exactly does it
work and why aren't our cities awash with water fresh
from the ocean?
