PRIME MINISTER COMING
PANAJI, Sept 29: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to arrive in Goa on a two-day visit on 15 and 16 October. During his two-day stay, he is likely to lay the foundation stone for the Convention Centre at Dona Paula.This programme was planned earlier but had been cancelled due to some reason. (GT)

NURSE DIES IN TRAGIC ACCIDENT
PANAJI, Sept 29: Anavita L Fernandes, 28, a nurse at TB Hospital, Monte,Margao, died in a tragic accident after she was hit by a truck at Navelim this afternoon. Fernandes, who had come to stay at her mother's place at Bomado, Chinchinim, as she is pregnant, was going to report for duty by scooter. (GT)

TAKE LEAVE OR LEAVE
PANAJI: The Corporation of City of Panaji meeting chaired by Mayor Ashok Naik recommended that the officers who are involved in the Curca waste dumping site will be asked to go on leave till an independent inquiry is done or leave their job. Besides, a decision was also taken to stop the special allowance given to the concerned officers with immediate effect.(GT)

Govt. studying IT park models of other states
PANAJI, Sept 29: The State government, whose IT policy has proposed an IT park in Goa, is studying models for such parks followed by other states like Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, official sources said. The sources also said that there was no need for bringing in a legislation to exempt IT industries from purview of several labour and factory laws. (NT)

Record haul: Rs.30 lakh worth cocaine seized at Vagator
PANAJI: 600 grams of cocaine worth Rs.30 lakh was seized from two Nigerian nationals at Vagator and Candolim on September 24 afternoon. The Anti-Narcotic Cell Police received information that two persons of Nigerian nationality, aged about 20 to 25 and wearing white T-shirts and black jeans would be coming to a place near Prim Rose Bar and Restaurant at Vagator  to deliver cocaine to their customers. The main purpose of World Tourism Day is to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social,cultural, political and economic values. This year's WTD has a theme Travel and transport: from the imaginary of Jules Verne to the reality of the 21st century which is important for Goa because our state does not have any kind of passenger or tourist friendly transportation policy.
