ROQUE Figueiredo
From: Mona Dias

Roque Figueirado (husband of Dagmar
nee Quadros ex Mombasa) passed away at 3:25pm Perth time on
Friday 4 November. He died peacefully. He jdid not make it to
his 75th birthday - on 5 November regrettably. He was surrounded
by immediate family, with Dagmar and children being at his
bedside. They all got to say their goodbyes on Thursday, whilst
he was conscious and awake, and he gave them his blessing. He
was ill for the last few weeks, but deteriorated significantly
this week.
An Appreciation
By: Pauline Figueiredo (Eldest daughter)
Roque Francisco Antonio Jofre de
Jesus Figueiredo was born on 5 November 1930 in Nairobi, Kenya,
East Africa. He was the eldest of three sons to Goan parents,
Nicolau and Olivia Figueiredo, from the Goan village of Verna,
India.
His mother was one of sixteen children, and his father was one
of seven – the perfect foundation to develop strong family bonds
and values.
He met Dagmar Quadros in Mombasa, Kenya. They married on 18
November 1961, having five children - Pauline, Keith, Everard,
Ian and Glenn.
Roque was successful in Kenya, but chose to emigrate to Perth,
West Australia in 1974 due to the political instability in
Africa at the time.
Roque formed strong community ties, was deeply involved in his
church and provided the love and support for all of his children
to be educated and succeed in life. His quiet, proud yet
respectful demeanour enabled him to lead by example.
Roque made his last “pilgrimage” to visit his family in Goa in
2004. He always felt a sense of home amongst his family. He was
diagnosed with aggressive throat cancer on his return to
Australia but demonstrated enormous courage to defy the doctors
predictions.
The day before his entry into heaven, Roque’s dying wish to
share the one day with his 5 children was met. He was able to
offer his blessing, extend final words of advice, and say
“goodbye” as he wanted. Sadly, his body was unable to hold on
for just one more sunrise to see his 75th birthday. His family
was grateful that he was able to spend his 75th birthday with
the Lord and for that, we are blessed.
Roque’s last sight was that of his wife of 44 years.
Roque Figueiredo was the “rock” in which the Figueiredo family
in Perth was built and was loved dearly. The fact that he had
five children and currently has 8½ grandchildren proves he has
left his everlasting mark on this world.
His spirit lives through all of us
Roque funeral will be held on Wednesday 9th November 2005 at 9
am.
Condolences to: Dagmar Figueiredo
