MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 5 /CNW/ - Today, UK-based City Mayors revealed what many Mississauga residents have known for years: Hazel McCallion is one of the best mayors in the world. City Mayors, organizers of the 2005 World Mayor Project, tallied 87,000 votes cast from around the world during a five-month period. Mississauga's Hazel McCallion placed second to Dora Bakoyannis, mayor of Athens. In the opening round, 550 mayors were nominated for the World Mayor Award. The City Mayors' editorial board then short-listed 65 mayors - 32 from Europe, 19 from the Americas, nine from Asia, three from Africa and two from Australia - to compete for the 2005 Award.
