Spring into Cleaning
TORONTO, April 18 /CNW/ - Ahh, spring cleaning - the time of year when Canadians open their windows and clear out the winter grime from their homes and cottages. But how many people actually know what it is they're using to clean floors, sinks, and bathrooms? Today, the average Canadian household contains 62 different toxic chemicals(1), and a major portion of these can be found in the commonly-used cleaning products living under the kitchen
sink.
This year, Canadians are encouraged to try an effective, healthy and economical alternative to harsh cleaning products - ARM & HAMMER(R) Baking Soda. It is an all-natural deodorizer and cleanser that is safe for children, pets and the environment. According to a recent survey by POLLARA, 89 per cent of Canadians have a box of baking soda in their home and while the majority (85 per cent) uses Baking Soda in their fridge or freezer, few take advantage of the myriad of other uses of the product.

Tips to Spring Clean the natural way:
- Get rid of the built up stinky smells in your green bin, compost and garbage - soak smelly containers in a solution of 4 tablespoons (60 mL) ARM & HAMMER(R) Baking Soda and 1 quart (1L) of warm water.

- Food containers storing more than yesterday's dinner? Get rid of food odours by cleaning containers with ARM & HAMMER(R) Baking Soda on a damp sponge.

- Dishwasher odours? Try running the dishwasher empty with a handful of ARM & HAMMER(R) Baking Soda to give it a good rinse. Between loads, toss a handful of ARM & HAMMER(R) Baking Soda in the dishwasher to reduce odour from soiled dishes.

- Keep linens fresh! Add a 1/2 cup of ARM & HAMMER(R) Baking Soda when washing bedding, comforters, mattress pads, bed ruffles and pillows to help power out stains and odours, leaving linens smelling fresh and clean, not perfumey!

- Replace the box of ARM & HAMMER(R) Baking Soda in your fridge or freezer every three months, but don't throw it away! Sweeten your drains or garbage disposal. Pour in your "old" Baking Soda and flush with hot water.

- After a long winter with the kids indoors, get rid of tough crayon marks from walls and painted furniture by sprinkling ARM & HAMMER(R) Baking Soda on a damp sponge or cloth and scrub gently.

- Clean and freshen your shower curtain by sprinkling ARM & HAMMER(R) Baking Soda directly on a damp sponge or brush. Scrub and rinse clean.

- Freshen sponges and cloths without using harsh cleaners. To remove stale-smelling odours, soak in a solution of 60mL ARM & HAMMER(R) Baking Soda and 1L water.
