Sao Joao feast on June 24

PANJIM: Panaji Traditional Festival Committee is all set to celebrate traditional Sao Joao feast on June 24 in honour of St John the Baptist. According to committee president Joaquim Telles, they will visit villages of Siridao, Goa Velha, Santa Cruz, Caranzalem, Patto with a brass band and recorded music to boost up the morale of revellers and will culminate at Ribandar where the final celebration will take place. The motto of these functions is to revive the long forgotten festivals, traditions and culture and is open for all communities to participate. (GT)
 
No more sunny skies for Goa

PANJIM: The Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd yesterday conducted a trial turn of its 167 shuttle services kept on either side of the Zuari bridge even as some private bus owners offered to give their mini buses to the KTC management on hire basis to tide over the crisis. The Zuari bridge, which has developed stress, will be closed for heavy vehicles (above six tons) from June 19 from 7 am onwards. 'Goa plans convention center, world class golf course'

A25-acre tract of land at Dona Paula, near the Goa University, has been finalised for the convention center, and the golf course will be located at Betul, in South Goa. The proposal for the golf course is in the nascent stages currently.

Konkani Book
SANT ANTON MILAGRINCHO BHOKT

ASSAGAO, June 18: While Goan Christians all over the world celebrate the feast of their favourite saint - Sant Anton - particularly in Siolim, Fr John D'Silva has written and published a Konkani book in the Roman script "Sant Anton Milagrincho Bhokt". The 156-page book is a compendium of everything that a Konkani reader wants to know about Sant Anton, including the famous 13 miracles, very popular folksongs like "Sant Anton man'chea bettan, pavs ghal soglea xetan...", parishes, chapels and schools dedicated to the saint all over Goa and even various legends and strange practices his devotees resort to in times of need - like tying up the statue, soaking it in water, etc. With a number of beautiful photographs in colour and black white, besides the endearing narrative of Fr John, a popular preacher from Muddavaddi in Saligao, a former Capuchin and now serving at Kaklutivont Mariechem Kopel in Cuncolim.
