Bobby Jindal Has Been Sworn In As The Youngest Governor Of
US State Of Louisiana

HOUSTON: Indian-American
Piyush Bobby Jindal, a conservative Republican, recreated
history on Monday as he was sworn in as the youngest
Governor of once racially segregated US state of Louisiana.
He
promised a "New Louisiana" that will be a magnet for the
dreamers, the risk-takers, the adventurers, the leaders of
America's new economy, Jindal said immediately after being
sworn in as Louisiana's 55th Governor.
Alongside with his wife
Spriya and three little children, Piyush recited the oath of
office, holding his hand to his family's Bible, and became
Louisiana's first immigrant Governor.
Pascal Calogero, chief justice of the Louisiana Supreme
Court, administered the oath, making Jindal the first
non-white governor in Louisiana and fourth Republican state
chief executive since Reconstruction.
He is the first Governor from Baton Rouge since the 1920s.
He was born in Baton Rouge and raised in the Kenilworth
neighborhood.
Jindal said an overhaul of the state's ethics laws and
reduction in business taxes would make Louisiana a beacon
for current residents and those who have left the state to
seek opportunity elsewhere.
"For reasons none of us can understand or fully appreciate,
history has placed all of us -- every living Louisianian,
those within her borders and without -- in a position
previous generations could only envy," Jindal said. |

In
The New Retirement, global economic strategist Sherry Cooper
explains that the boomer generation will be reaching
traditional retirement age very soon and the enormous wave
of boomer retirees will crest in 2025. This phenomenon will
profoundly affect the labour markets, the economy, and
financial markets for decades. But will boomers retire they
way their parents did? Will they work longer and transition
gradually into semi-retirement?
Cooper tells us that boomers will redefine retirement with
great energy and creativity, working well beyond age 65 and
mostly by choice. With the dramatic rise in their longevity,
healthy goal-driven boomers will seek purposeful
leisure—focusing on regeneration, rejuvenation, and
low-stress contributions to society and their own personal
wealth.
Follow Cooper through her own journey to discover the route
to financial security in this engaging and insightful read.
Learn how the new retirement is about living well while
achieving both monetary security and your personal goals.
Selected Excerpts:
Health and Achievement
- The increase in longevity provides the opportunity for
boomers to do so much more after age 60 than earlier
generations did. - Late-life can be active and pain-free.
You can be accepting of natural physical and mental
weakening, while enjoying the enhanced wisdom, selflessness,
and peacefulness that aging can bring. - Success in life
varies from person to person, but it is much broader than
simply success in work. - Boomers have strived for
self-actualization all their working lives. In retirement,
they will do so by giving back and leaving a legacy.
Canadian Boomers in a Global
Context
- Labour shortages will mount in the developed world -
especially Canada - as aging boomers leave the workforce. -
Potential growth in advanced economies will slow unless the
decline in the growth of the labour force can be offset by
rising productivity growth, increased immigration of skilled
workers, additional outsourcing, and later retirement for
boomers. - Productivity growth is essential to raising
living standards. We need more appropriate corporate tax
policies to encourage investment to boost productivity.
The Aging Population
- Large numbers of retirees will strain the pension and
health-care systems in most industrial countries. -
Governments will be torn between the needs of boomers
(health care, pensions, safety, public services) and those
of young families (schools, highways, affordable housing,
daycare). There could be significant conflict between age
groups. This requires immediate action and planning.
Lifestyle and Health Planning
- Develop a lifestyle plan for retirement. It will help
determine (and be determined by) how much income you will
likely need (and have) in retirement. Develop this plan long
before retirement and test it out - what you thought was
ideal may not be so. - Your health is paramount. Do what is
best for your health and well-being. Make sure you have easy
access to good health care. - Stress is a killer, so is
obesity. Premature illness and death can be mitigated by
lifestyle and nutritional choices. - The like between body
and mind is well established. Healthful emotional
development is a life-long process and adds life to your
years as well as years to your life. |

The
World’s First Self-Refrigerating Cans
POSTED: Monday, January 14, 2008

The following blog post is from an independent writer and is

Created by
Tempra Technology and Crown Holdings, the world’s first
self-chilling can is near completion to commercialize and
market to top beverage companies.
Also known as I.C.Can™, the self-contained can uses the
latest in insulating, thermal and vacuum heat pump
technology. There is no need for this cold beverage to sit
in a refrigerated vending machine. Each of the cans are able
to take the form of a 500 ml beverage can to include both
the integral self-refrigerating device and the beverage.
In just three minutes, the latest breakthroughs in
technology drop the can’s temperature to a minimum of 16.7°
Celsius or 30° Fahrenheit. When activated, the desiccant
contained within a vacuum draws the heat from the beverage
through the evaporator into an insulated heat-sink
container. The patented vacuum power that lowers the
temperature so quickly is what leaves the beverage cool.
The cans are non-toxic, 100% safe and eco-friendly. Per the
company, they are also easy to operate, transport and store,
using no carbon dioxide, CFC, HFC or any other compressed
gas. |
