Canadians shine in Rosemarie Meschi Awards
Jeannine
Pereira was the recipient of the prestigious Rosemary Merchi
Award for her passion and effective execution of inclusiveness
strategies at a gala dinner event at Toronto's Westin Harbour
Castle with more than 900 attendees of Ernst & Young's Women's
Leadership Conference which honoured the service of six
outstanding advocates for gender equity at Ernst & Young.
Jeannine is also highly gifted in many other areas - a true
all-rounder!
Jeannine is the daughter of Delphine & Errol Francis and
daughter-in-law of Audrey & Hubert Pereira, well known for
their high level of commitment to the Goan community. |

World Economic Forum.

Helps and Vartana, along with Canada's environment minister
John Baird, CBC Television's programming director Kirstine
Layfield, and Stornoway Diamonds Corp. CEO Eira Thomas, are
among four Canadians named as young global leaders by the
World Economic Forum.

Aaron is the son of Flavia & Tony Pereira from Mississauga.
Vartana –is a registered charity with a mandate to research
and develop Canada's first financial institution dedicated
to meeting the needs of voluntary sector organizations. Once
established, Vartana Bank will be Canada's first bank that
is also a registered charity. Its primary customers will be
charities and non-profit organizations.
The list of 245 executives, public figures and intellectuals
under the age of 40 was released on Tuesday. Baird, 38, said
he is honoured to receive the award. "Like the World
Economic Forum, our government recognizes that climate
change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world
today," he said in a statement. "We have demonstrated
leadership by taking real action both at home and on the
world's stage to tackle this issue."

Dance of the Peacock
Cheryl Antao Xavier launched her collection of poems
entitled Dance of the Peacock
at the Streetsville Arts Fest (Mississauga) on Friday, 23rd
May . Many of her poems are based on life in Karachi and
have a strong South Asian flavour. It would be entertaining

Cheryl
Antao-Xavier has been writing poetry for over 20 years and

Cheryl’s poems are vignettes of the human experience that
capture the trials and angst of people in transition and
women in subjugation, painted against a vivid landscape of
the Indian sub-continent. Cheryl is the Chair of the Peel
region branch of the Canadian Federation of Poets and a
member of The Ontario Poetry Society and the Mississauga
Arts Council.
She is also a playwright and her first play, a comedy, is
under production through SAWITRI (South Asian Women’s
Inter-cultural Theatre and Research Initiative) and will be
staged at the Mosaic festival in Mississauga in June 2008. |

Goan Recipe
Chicken Cafreal
Chef: Mrs.Cafrina Martins Corner Belbatin, Goa
Ingredients:
2 pieces chicken
1 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsp chopped coriander
1 piece cinnamon
6 cloves
1 small piece ginger
5 green chillies
6 pieces garlic
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
2 pieces cardamom
1 tsp vinegar4 tsp white rum
4 tbsp oil
10 onion rings
Method: Add salt to
chicken and cook in water on full flame for 3 minutes.
Grind coriander, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, green chillies,
garlic, cuminseeds, cardamom, vinegar and white rum to a
paste. Add paste, two tbsp oil and onion rings to the
cooking chicken and reduceflame to low.
After ten minutes add two more tbsp oil and white rum.
Simmer on fire tillall the water evaporates and the chicken
readies.
Serve hot with salad and chips.
