Goan and
Anglo-Indian Research Project
From: G.O.A.
(enewsletter@goatoronto.com)
September 25, 2008
A research project led by Kathryn Da Silva, a PhD
student at the University of Ottawa in the field of
migration and Canadian studies is being conducted in
the form of focus groups. As the Goan community
represents a very diverse and dynamic community in the
GTA, our experiences being far-reaching and our
individual histories very inspiring, we possess
invaluable information about how we continue to
successfully leave our legacy in Canada. You are
invited to share your unique experience in a local
focus group discussion about Religion, Culture and
Adaptation within Goan and Anglo-Indian Communities
and your participation is totally voluntary.
The focus group is designed to look at if, how, and
why Goans and Anglo-Indians have managed to “fit in”
both religiously and culturally. In particular, input
will be requested on:
- You or your family’s
migration to Canada
- Central aspects of
your culture
- What is important to
you about Catholicism
- Some of the cultural
benefits/challenges of life in Canada
- Some of the
religious advantages/disadvantages of life in
Canada, and
- The changing role of
religion and ethnicity in your life
The details of the focus groups are as follows:
Date: Mid-November
2008 (choose from 3 different focus group dates)
Time: TBA
Location:
Mississauga
Contact: Kathryn
Da Silva at
kdasi082@uottawa.ca
Light refreshments will be served.
For more information and to participate, please
