GOAN CULTURAL GROUP (GCG) 2008

The club started in Sep 2008 holds regular meetings every Wednesday from 6.30 pm-9.00pm in the Programs Room of the Older Adults Centre in Mississauga’s prestigious Square One Shopping Centre

Seby Carvalho was instrumental in initially, securing a spot for the Goans at the Centre. He has been representing the Goan Community for the past ten years. and will continue to do so.

To date ,the venue has been used for Lancers practices, Konkani singsong, and a Health and Wellness workshop, card playing and a rehearsal night , for the 55PGA TALENT SHOW.

The GCG will be closed on Dec. 24th., Dec. 31st., Jan 07 2009.

Program for 2009

2009 will be a great year for the GCG. Plans are in the making to have a variety of activities, such as, Line Dancing, Lancers/Mando, Whists, mini Health & Wellness workshops, Konkani Movies and many more items.

The GCG is welcoming new members . Mississauga residents 50 years of age and older (spouses may be under 50) are welcome to join the Centre. There are no additional fees beyond the initial enrollment and activity fee paid upfront. It works out at about $3.00 a month.

The GCG is not an offshoot of any Goan Association, Seniors or others. It reports to the Directors of the Older Adults Centre which is managed by an incorporated non-profit, volunteer Board of Directors. (See website http://sq1oac.com/)

Quebec Goan Association – St. Francis Xavier Feast Celebration

The QGA is pleased to announce that preparations are well underway for the feast of our "Goencho Saib", Saint Francis Xavier. The event is sponsored this year by the family of Tony and Jane Fernandes.

Date: Saturday, November 29th, 2008
Location: Saint Suzanne Church, 9501 Gouin Boulevard West, Pierrefonds, QC, H8Y 1T7

Mass will start at 6:30 PM sharp. As per tradition, a social gathering will follow in the parish hall.

Dinner tickets for this event must be purchased in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door. The deadline for purchasing tickets is Sunday, November 16th, 2008.

Adults (Age 11+): $15.00
Children (10 and under): $10.00

Toronto- Dr. Ribeiro Goan School Ex-Students Reunion– September 26, 2009

The 11th Dr. Ribeiro Goan School Ex-Students Reunion will take place in Toronto on Sept. 26, 2009. There will be a week of festivities leading up to the Grand Ball on that night at the picturesque Lionhead Golf and Country Club in Brampton. We are planning a Pub Night; trip to Niagara Falls, a golf tournament and a picnic on Sept. 27. Individual classes will also have a day set aside to hold their own mini-reunions during the week.

So please go ahead and make your travel arrangements and, in the coming weeks, we will list the names of the committee members and their email addresses to answer any questions you may have.

P.S.: The Railway Goan Institute (later Railway Institute) will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Ex-members are planning to hold on an event a week before the Goan School function. The Goan School ex-students will be throwing their full support behind this event.

Members of the Railway Goan Institute and those who worked for the Railways or whose parents were employed there, or lived in the Railway neighbourhood, are planning a “Homecoming” in Toronto to celebrate the Centenary of this famed institution. This event will take place in conjunction with the Ex-Students Reunion as noted in the announcement above, in September 2009.
