100,000 Students
Get Help Looking For Summer Jobs
McGuinty Government Boosts
Popular Program For Youth
TORONTO, May 3 /CNW/ - More than 100,000 students will
find work this summer through Ontario's student summer
jobs programs. The 2009 Ontario Budget increased
funding for the summer program by over 57 per cent or
$32 million in 2009, to help more students find summer
work in their communities. Students can apply for a
variety of government jobs or for funding to start
their own business. Wage subsidies will allow private
and not-for-profit corporations to hire more summer
students.
"In challenging economic times, Ontario is helping
more students find the jobs they need to fund their
education and develop important workplace skills."
- John Milloy (http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/general/biography/tcu_minister.html),
Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.
QUICK FACTS
- This increase in
funding will result in 27,000 more students
benefiting from the Ontario Summer Jobs program this
year. Ontario Summer Jobs programs receive some
support from the federal government.
- Employers may be
eligible for a $2-per-hour wage subsidy through the
Ontario Summer Jobs Service program.
- The age range for
students eligible for an Ontario Summer Job is 15 to
