Dufferin-Peel Catholic District
School Board announces
top scholars for 2008-09
2,200 Grade 12 Dufferin-Peel students score 80 per
cent or higher

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is
pleased to announce its top scholars for 2008-09.
For the second year in a row, St. Francis Xavier
Secondary School in Mississauga produced Dufferin-Peel’s
top scholar. Richard Hae scored an impressive 99.34
per cent average on his top six Grade 12 courses.
The leading scholar from a Brampton school is
once again from St. Edmund Campion Secondary School.
Darren Fernandes scored an average of 99.17 per
cent. Oliver Cardoza from Robert F. Hall
Catholic Secondary School was the top Caledon/Dufferin
County scholar with a 94.50 per cent average.
Richard, Darren and Oliver are among the 2,200
Dufferin-Peel scholars who earned an average of 80
per cent or higher on their top six Grade 12
courses.
Richard Hae has accepted an entrance scholarship to
McMaster University where he is enrolled in the
Health Sciences program.
Darren Fernandes will also be attending university
in the fall; however the name of the university and
course of study was not confirmed at press time.
Oliver Cardoza has received a Nortel Network
Scholarship and an entrance scholarship from the
University of Waterloo where he will study Computer
Engineering.
“These students are to be recognized for their
exceptional academic achievements,” said John
Kostoff, director of education. “Marks like these
represent many hours of perseverance and dedication.
These qualities should serve them well as they
continue their academic endeavours through the
post-secondary level and beyond.” |

Chicago,
July 10, 2009: The Mangaloreans of Chicago area,
under the leadership of Mangalorean Konkan Christian
Association of Chicago, greeted Bishop of Mangalore,
Rt Dr. Aloysius D'Souza, spiritual leader of
Mangalore Diocese, with a rousing welcome. The
celebrations were held at the Holy Spirit Church of
Techny Towers. The Techny Towers is the landmark of
the Divine Word Missionaries in the US.
This program began with solemn Mass celebrated by
the Bishop, along with co-celebrants Fr Riche Vaz
and Fr Henry Sequeira. The Bishop gave a touching
homily by asking everyone to help the needy by
representing Jesus Christ in them. Dorthy Rego and
Rexon D’souza with Daphne Fernandes on the Keyboard
arranged a melodious choir in Konkani during the
Mass. |
