MARITIME TRIP REPORT
THE EAST COAST

IN SEARCH OF NIRVANA : by George Pereira
Few trips will ever rival the trip to the fascinating East Coast. What made it outstanding is the participation and interaction of all who traveled whether it was singing "You are my sunshine" even when the skies seemed threateningly but pleasantly overcast, or Leslie’s rendition of "I believe" injecting his belief that faith was all that was needed to “light up our lives”. To cap it all, Barbara’s silent prayers for good weather indicated that she had a hot line to the inner sanctum of heaven ... . more

55PGA PICNIC JULY 26/09
What started off as a beautiful early Sunday morning turned out into a day of wild and tumultuous electrical thunderstorms with spurts of sunshine.

Nevertheless, a few hardy and brave seniors (about 50) decided to ride out the storm and wade in to the picnic site , which was held in a sheltered area, in the beautiful Erindale Park. The Credit River was fast flowing and some avid fishermen (not 55PGA) tried their luck with “baited” breath... more

HEALTH AND WELLNESS SEMINAR AND CONCERT
July 3rd, 2009, 5:00p.m. The first of 520 guests began the descent into the basement Hall at Christ the King Church in anticipation of the much-awaited Health and Wellness Seminar and Concert hosted by 55PGA. Rigorous planning and organizing was the order of the days leading up to the event. The committee had left no stone unturned to ensure that this rather daunting undertaking would run as smoothly as was humanly possible. And, to our extreme satisfaction, it did... more

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS FOR THE BODY , MIND & SPIRIT SEMINAR – JULY 03/09.
The 55PGA is pleased to acknowledge that this event was an exceptional presentation of speakers in the medical field, and for this ,we have to credit none other than Edlyn D’Souza, who brought these talented Doctors to enlighten us.

An event of this magnitude, was a first for the 55PGA. The task to co-ordinate the sales , seating and providing excellent finger foods, as well as the transfer of the 500 plus attendees from the Conference Hall into the Church( Christ the King) with the utmost respect and reverence , was overseen by Joan do Rosario. Joan and her team of volunteers did a fantastic job . Everyone had a seat in the hall and Church and everyone was well nourished.

The dynamic duo of Edlyn & Joan presented the community with a well planned and orchestrated event.

As Vice President & Co-Chair of the New Horizons Project I would like to extend an appreciation from the 55PGA for this very informative Seminar.

Thank you Edlyn & Joan,
Juliet Rebello

55PGA -Goan Short Story Contest - invitation to participate
http://www.goanvoice.ca/2009/issue19/Ref/55PGS_tips.pdf

It is often that we hear about people we know who are keen on ensuring that their stories are somehow captured so that these gems can be shared with friends and family over time. Now members of our community have an opportunity to do what they hoped to accomplish but did not have the resources to translate their desires into actionable next steps.

Our Book Club leader, Rudi Rodrigues, is a gifted professional who has agreed to help those interested to participate in this interesting project. Full details are provided in the attachment. We would hope that those interested may be able to participate. I'm truly excited about this initiative and I'm sure that you will share my enthusiasm.

This project is scheduled to proceed soon and we would hope that this provides a venue not only for creativity - capturing Goan culture for posterity. If you or others have any questions Rudi Rodrigues will be pleased to provide additional details. Click here for more details
