GOAN ARCHIVES PROJECT See: http://sites.google.com/site/goanarchivescanada/home By Muriel Lucas This will serve to introduce the “Mystic Chords of Memory”, which resonates today, as we celebrate the importance of Archiving, thru all its diversity of form and function, serves as its memory, featuring a host of articles from historical times. Archives makes exploring history, and discovering fascinating news in archived articles, 100 years and more, making it easy and fun.  This year, 2009 has brought about an opportunity to raise awareness about the value of Archiving & Archivists. The Archives project is a work currently in progress, by the newly formed, outstanding group, who are there to serve the Goan Community at large. With a “Sumptious” blend of articles, books, reports, newspaper cuttings, essays, etc. you can now retrieve those ‘long lost’ treasures you have stored away and thumb thru’ the web page for easy reference. As part of their “outreach” efforts, they have recently advertised a “drop off” area at the “Older Adult Centre, situated at square one, in Mississauga, on the 20th January 2010. They will continue to feed this VITAL new resource with content from issues past. So, dig deep into your treasure chest, and submit your valuable content to the recipients at hand. You will find features, articles, reviews and information that will help you maximize your enjoyment of this great pastime. So whether you want to search for by issue, or author, or by subject for easy reference, you will find a sizeable “trove” of what has appeared in those pages you have submitted. Trusting you will ‘tailor’ the “good word” about the value of archiving to your younger generation, so that they may be future users of Archives, and or, become future Archivists. For now, continue enjoying what is there at present and the newly formed committee thanks you in advance for supporting this monumental task and sharing in their vision and supporting them reach their goal. LEADERSHIP FORMATION PROGRAM The Office of Formation for Discipleship of the Archdiocese of Toronto is continuing its prgram of forming lay leaders for parishes. Starting January 6th 2010 an excellent session on the “Basic teachings of the Catholic Church” will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church , 5650 Mavis Road Mississauga every Wednesday 7:30pm – 9:00 pm. The program runs until Februrary 10th 2010. If you are interested please contact the St Mary’s parish office at 905-451-2300.

We're working to organise a small get-together of former Karachi Goans at 3 pm, same venue. If you know someone who was linked to Karachi, please pass on the word. Rui Lobo has promised to play his artistic Konkani song renderings on the classical guitar. We invite authors who have published books on Goa, to bring along author-signed copies for sale on that date (a small discount to the buyers would be appreciated by all!). If you send me a personal mail letting me know of your plans to attend, we can create a "who's coming" list in advance, so that people who know you as a name or email address could get a chance to meet up too!
