Pastoral Message from

2010 Issue of sexual abuse addressed
by Shepherd of 1.9 million Catholics
TORONTO
(April 16, 2010) His
Grace, Archbishop Thomas Collins,
has prepared a pastoral message
for the faithful of the
Archdiocese regarding the issue of
sexual abuse and the church. The
message will be read as the homily
at every mass in 225 parishes this
weekend.
It’s official. Last week, the
major banks raised mortgage rates
— 60 basis points for a five-year
fixed to 5.85 per cent from 5.25
per cent. Variable rate holders
are quaking. Do you lock in, hold
your breath and pray, downsize to
delightful Musquodoboit Harbour?
RBC's focused and disciplined
approach over these past years has
yielded positive results and
recognition in diversity and
multicultural circles, and now
includes the prestigious and
internationally renowned Catalyst
Award.
Commentary
The
statements, opinions, or views in the articles may not
necessarily reflect that of the Goan Voice Canada.
The shame associated with the abuse of children by
Catholic priests is borne these days by all Catholics
forced to explain to incredulous friends and acquaintances
how this could have happened, how it could have gone on so
long, how it could have been allowed to become so
extensive - questions that still require a proper answer.
Like a millstone around our necks, the scandal, year after
endless year, drags us all down with it. How the church as
the people of God respond to it should not be a question
of loyalty to the pope nor even more demands for his
resignation; it is a matter of restoring the church’s
integrity as an institution and renewing the life of
holiness for its members. It is a matter of corporate
conversion.

Unwanted' patients make GMC their
home
Ward No 104 of Goa Medical College & Hospital at
Bambolim has become a home for three persons who came
to be admitted to the Orthopaedic Ward long ago. But
with no relation of theirs to take care of them, the
overworked staff is compelled to look after them even
though the trio is virtually fit for discharge. The
three have nowhere to go and ward authorities can't
disown them as no relations of these patients have
come forward to take them. On the other hand, the
hospital administration has not made any serious
effort to make alternate arrangement to shift the
persons elsewhere burdening the staff especially,
nurses and servants as they have to look after them
besides their regular duties, sources told this
paper. [H]

Can an aspirin a day keep
cancer away? By Dr. Isaac Eliaz on 04/05/2010
We all know by now that aspirin isn’t just
for headaches anymore. Daily aspirin therapy
to ward off heart disease has become
commonplace in recent years, and though it’s
come with its fair share of
controversy - prompting many, myself included,
to question whether its benefits truly
outweigh its risks. There’s little question
that an aspirin a day can provide at least
some protection for an ailing heart. In
fact, according to a new published study, it
may offer much more than that.
Energizer "Getting Canadians to Listen"
survey highlights risky listening habits
TORONTO, April 19 /CNW/ - It's no surprise
that Canadians love listening to music,
especially through minute earphones as they
make their way to work and school. In fact,
according to a recent Energizer Getting
Canadians to Listen survey conducted by
Harris/Decima by telephone from March 25th
through March 28th, 2010, 50 per cent of
Canadians listen to music using earphones.
While there is nothing wrong with enjoying
some good tunes, what's concerning to
experts is the fact that close to 10 per
cent of those surveyed, 14% of Gen X and Y
specifically, admit to listening to their
music at 80 per cent volume for up to an
hour or longer, putting their hearing health
at risk.
