World Goa Day
Charity Picnic
The Goan Overseas Association will be celebrating
World Goa Day on
Saturday July 24th, 2010 at Centennial Park (AREA 7). This
is our International Charity
Picnic under the Charitable Portfolio of the
G.O.A. and funds collected will be sent to Mombasa, Kenya to
assist Ms. Roseleen DeSouza.
Ms. Roseleen DeSouza resides in Mombasa, Kenya and has
battled medical conditions for many months. Most recently
she has been diagnosed with cancer, which has required
hospitalization, medication and chemotherapy. All of which
have exhausted her medical insurance. Roseleen has three
siblings, one sister lives in Toronto (Marina/Prip DeSouza).
Currently, Roseleen is going through radiation treatment (in
Mumbai). On her previous trips to Mumbai, she was able to
take someone with her as she required assistance. This means
2 air tickets, hotel accommodation and food. Her funds are
now exhausted and she has to travel to Mumbai on her own.
Unfortunately, she has no family or friends in Mumbai to
assist her. Her family has assisted with the payment of some
of her bills which have amounted to approximately $10,000.00
As an Association, we would like to pull together and assist
Roseleen in an effort to alleviate her financial burdens so
that she can focus on her recovery.
This note is from a friend of Roseleen's in Mombasa
(Jennifer DeSouza)
This may not be appropriate for
you to know, but I would like you all to know that before
Roseleen had these medical problems, she was always there to
help sick people and visit them whether in hospitals or in
their homes with something they could eat. Her visits to
people were very much appreciated by all. Even if they lived
far, she would make sure she went to see them. Now it is our
turn to assist her. I know God is keeping Roseleen under His
Loving Care and guiding you all to assist her.
If you are not able to attend the fundraiser picnic but wish
to assist Roseleen, you can send in a donation. Kindly make
cheques payable to the Goan Overseas Association (with a
note in the memo field re: Roseleen DeSouza), mail to Seira
Furtado. 5461 Bestview Way, Mississauga, Ontario L5M 0B1.

Goa Sudharop: Flip flop for Goan Youth
--- On Fri, 6/11/10, George Pinto <georgejpinto@...>

Hi everyone:
Goa Sudharop's theme for 2010 is YEAR OF THE GOAN VOLUNTEER
SPIRIT, and our Youth have stepped up to the plate by
organizing a volunteer drive. They challenge you to take
flipflop challenge for youth.
- Try walking barefoot outdoors for a day this summer or
winter. Now imagine young children having to walk barefoot,
on hot roads, on unclean and possibly unsanitary streets in
Goa. Together we can team up and send flip flops to these
children, they not only offer a healthier alternative to
walking barefoot, but are a fun and simple way to offer a
child or toddler a feeling of ownership while adding to
their confidence and dignity.
The 2010 flip flop campaign has 4
drive options:
-
Flop
Drop: We will have youth from different parts of the San
Francisco Bay Area hold a flipflop drop off in their
area where people could drop off flip flop donations. If
a drop off is held in other parts of the U.S. I would
suggest donating an additional $1 to help cover costs of
shipping.
-
Flipflop
global: Donate online at Goa Sudharop website (click on
DONATE on the Home Page), a suggested minimum donation
of $3 donation will easily cover the feet of a child or
toddler with a pair of flipflops. $15 would make 5
children happy.
-
Our team
will also contact organizations such as Old Navy,
Target, and other possible businesses, to see if they
would help support this cause.
-
Hold a
booth at a local event that will permit guests to
donate.
The Goal for
2010 is 100 pairs of flipflops Proposed by Kiran Shastri

Thank you for your support. Goa
