Happy
Birthday India - commemorating 63 years of freedom!
Message from G.O.A. Toronto |
Posted: 27 Jul 2010 07:33 PM PDT
At midnight on Aug. 15, 1947, a new nation was born on a
subcontinent ripped apart by a bloody partition. Independent
India came into being as flames blazed across the land,
corpse-laden trains crossed the new frontier with Pakistan,
and weary refugees abandoned everything to seek a new life.
A less favorable start for a new nation could hardly be
imagined.
Yet, more than six decades later, the India that emerged
from the wreckage of the British is the world's largest
democracy, poised after years of rapid economic growth to
take its place as one of the giants of the 21st century.
On
Saturday, August 14th, 2010,
the Consulate General of India in Toronto in
conjunction with Panorama India will be hosting India Day at
the
Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto, across from the
Eaton Center.
The program for the day will
include:
-
Patriotic
Songs 9:30 a.m. 11:00 a.m.
-
Parade 11.00
a.m. 12:00 noon
-
Flag Hoisting
12.01 p.m. 12:30 p.m.
-
Cultural
Programme 12:30 p.m. 6:00 p.m.
-
Headliner
Performance 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m.
In
celebration of our Indian culture and successes, the G.O.A
would like to extend an invitation to you, your family and
friends. We hope you will come out to represent the Goan
state by joining the grand parade - a 2 km. leisure walk,
watching traditional dances of India and enjoying your
favourite Indian food.
If you are interested in joining the float or performing a
Goan cultural dance, please contact me.
Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!
