This year’s Canada Day (July 1, 2011) was blessed with a wonderful summer’s day for the thousands of people who lined Ste-Catherine street in Montreal last Friday to cheer the parade and also dance and sing to the sounds of live Goan music blasting from our very own QGA float. And not to forget our Goan dancers clad in colourful saris and Goan attire who graced the float as it slowly moved down the parade route.

 

55PGA GOA FEST 2011

55 Plus Goan Association of Mississauga hosted its first GoaFest on Saturday, June 4th, 2011, at Candles Banquet Hall, 1224 Dundas St. East Mississauga, to a sell out crowd of over 600 members, their families and friends. The event was touted as an unqualified success by all attendees. Notwithstanding the inclement weather front that moved in early that morning, there was a steady stream of attendees as soon as the doors opened at 11:00am. People were even arriving as late as 7:00 pm for the evening’s entertainment.

Of late, members of the Westend Seniors’ Club have been splurging on cruises to exotic shores. From their earlier memories of the humble “khasti” worn by the fishermen on the beaches of Goa, their beachwear sightings may have included a meagre fig-leaf in Torremolinos, a dental-floss bikini at Copacabana in Rio, a p---s sheath in New Guinea or a dangling string of beads in Karamoja. Ostensibly, to test the waters, the club had a beachwear party on June 18, with no limitations specified.

Panaji, June 24 (IBNS): Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat was greeted with protests at two public functions in the capital on Friday over his decision of approving English as the Medium of Instruction (MOI). In the fall of 1995 I took an Indian philosophy class at the University of Guelph. I was in the last semester of my undergrad and I had already taken Chinese philosophy with the same professor, who was fantastic, so it only made sense to follow it up with Indian philosophy.
