Even though it was an exciting tussle and fair exchange of ball possession, the Final of the 16th Gaudencio Memorial Playoff Championship 2011 held at the Centennial Stadium, Etobicoke on Saturday September 24th at 1:00 p.m. between the defending champions Loutolim Goatees S. C. and first time finalist Navelim Sports Club ended in a 1-1 tie. The tie breaker had to be resorted to, as the teams failed to break the deadlock in the regular time of 90 minutes and an extra time of 30 minutes. Loutolim prevailed 2-1 in the tie breaker for their fourth victory in the championship.

Goa CM discusses mining issue with commission

Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat met members of the Shah Commission as a part of the inquiry initiated against the illegal mining trade in the state.

Kamat, who also holds the mining portfolio, had a lengthy discussion with Justice M B Shah and his key member U V Singh here yesterday. Shah Commission had said that if required they would summon Chief Minister for the inquiry. Sources said that Kamat was not summoned but went on his own to meet the members.

(Erwin Fonseca) Mapusa: Tension prevailed at Bagwada, Morjim on Tuesday evening when a land owner refused cremation of a woman. Pernem deputy collector, Mr Rajendra Mirajkar who on being tipped off rushed at Morjim along with the Pernem police but was unable to pacify the crowd. The crowd thereafter went with the body to Panaji where five of them later met the Chief Minister, Mr Kamat and placed before him their grievances.
