It is with great sadness that the family of Francis Soares announces his peaceful passing in his 87th year on June 17, 2012 at Providence Healthcare. Beloved brother to late Tolentina and late Ezequiel. Devoted brother-in-law to Anne and late Joao Braganza. Loving Uncle to Pamela, Audry (John), Fred (Judy), Marilyn, Eulogio, Barbara (Elias), Maggie (late Gonzac), Antonette (Avito), Rose (Riza), Sophie (Michael). Cherished great uncle to Natasha, Sean, Sonia, Flavia, Xavier, Melanie, Merlyn, Karen, Kevin, Jason, Jamie, and Robyn. He will be fondly remembered by many relatives and friends. Visitation is scheduled from 6-9pm on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, 8911 Woodbine Avenue, Markham. Funeral service will be held at 1pm on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 2950 Midland Avenue, (S. of Finch Ave.) Scarborough. Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) expresses its deep grief for the passing away of its member and Veteran Konkani writer and novelist Joao Inacio D'Souza who expired at his ancestral house at Gaunsavaddo in Mapusa on 11th June, 2012.

Joao Inacio, a man with a fine sense of humour which reflected in his written work, was quite popular in the Konkani literary circles for several years on the trot. He started his Konkani writings since 1919 through ‘Porjecho Adar’ paper. He also contributed to Konkani periodicals, viz. Sot Uloi, The Goan Mail, Ave Maria, The Goa Times, Goan Express, Vavraddi, A Vanguarda, Vavraddeancho Ixtt, Sot, Divtti, Uzvadd, Novem Gõy, Gõycho Avaz, Gulab, etc. He ws the editor of ‘Gõycho Pormoll’ annual magazine.

He was one of the ace writers in 60s, 70s and 80s,  and a veteran novelist, who has as many as 33 novels to his credit, some of which are Voklen Novreak Marlo, Zingarro, Konn Ti Ostori, Marieta, Mogacho Nach, Patkanchem Farikponn, Magdalen Jivont Zalem, Dolldiro Put, Jerina ani Alkantra, Movaleank Firtur, Zati Bhair Kazar, Bemoriadik Ostori, Afrikantli Girestkai, Ave-Maria?, Mogachim Koutam, Mogachem Kazar, Paulinachem Noxib, Forsan Mog..., Sopon, Xapaichi Girestkai, Patki Antonet, Toxem Kelear Patok?, Gulabkaulechem Ful, Produarponn, Faustino ani Esmeralda, Ermelind Patkant Poddlem, Therratokos, Gamberro ani Diamanti, Organv Goa Xaracho, Mainchea Ghora Kiteak?, Kalljidar Sambadh Tarvotti, Carteiro Sitaram, Belea Xarachi Vatt, etc. through which he contributed immensely to Konknni literature.

He was awarded ‘Dalgado Literary Award’ in 2009 by DKA for his life time contribution to Konknni in Romi script.

DKA prays for his departed soul and offers condolences to his breaved family.
