The faithful within both the Republican and Democratic folds claim their chosen party leaders are champions of the American middle class. But the majority of independents who form the largest slice of that vast demographic overwhelmingly aren't buying it, pegging the Republicans as the party of the wealthy while also believing that Democratic policies somewhat tend to favor the poor.

Manufacturers are less optimistic despite their projections for more investment and growth

Bets on foreign markets and energy investments as holding the key to growth

Toronto, Aug. 27, 2012 /CNW/ - According to the PwC Manufacturing Barometer report for Q2 2012, manufacturers' optimism about the Canadian economy dipped 22 points from last quarter's high of 76%. As a practicing Catholic it pains me greatly to read the excellent article on the upheaval in the Catholic Church compiled by your foreign affairs reporter Olivia Ward. The Catholic Church is truly at the crossroads and the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith must respond and adapt to the genuine winds of change before it is too late.

Forty years have passed since we Ugandan Asians were banished from our lush homeland by President Idi Amin. In the autumn of 1972, more than 28,000 deportees, dazed and bereft, arrived in the UK. They left behind homes, businesses, insurance policies, bank accounts, land, deeds, shrines, graves, mosques, temples, churches, jewellery and many their hearts. They were British passport holders. Those without went to Canada, Scandinavia, the US, India and Australia.

Microsoft rolls out first new logo in 25 years
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/08/23/us-microsoft-logo-idUKBRE87M0MO20120823
Thu, Aug 23 2012

Seattle (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp unveiled its first new logo in 25 years on Thursday as it looks to unify its branding ahead of a clutch of new product releases this year.

The world's largest software company is introducing a dash of color in its first logo redesign since 1987, using a new multi-colored square next to a plain rendering of its name, replacing its well-worn italic style logo. Microsoft is rolling out its new Windows 8 operating system along with new Office and phone software this autumn, and is hoping the new logo unifies customers' experience of the company, much like rival Apple Inc's distinctive logo has for its consumers.

The Indian Express presents Most Powerful Indians in 2012

There are seven new names in the top 30 and significant changes in ranking for others, pointing to some major developments over the past 12 months. For one, the big story of the year was clearly the Anna Hazare-led movement against corruption.
