TD asks Canadians to Redefine Retirement

Toronto, Sept. 10, 2012 /CNW/ - There are many definitions of retirement based on the premise that it marks the end of your full-time career. One dictionary even defines retirement as "a withdrawal from one's position or occupation or from active working life." However, for many Canadians today, retiring is about much more than just leaving the workforce. People are living longer, working later into their lives, and are spending a larger portion of their lives in retirement than previous generations. If the reality of retirement is changing for many people, isn't it time the definition of retirement changed with it?

Goa is a state of mind
Published in:
By: Margaret Mascarenhas | September 8, 2012

Historically, Goa's allure has rivalled that of the mythical El Dorado. That mystique, combined with a cosmopolitan flavour and better access, is giving Goa a budding reputation as a Riviera of creativity. For 40-odd years, I have tracked Goa's more contemporary incarnations - hippie haven, trance and low-budget tourist attraction, Bollywood party stop, metro society getaway, and over the past few years, the darling of writers, artists, photographers, designers, documentary filmmakers musicians, academics from all over the world.

Midnight's Children film may not be released in India
September 10, 2012, 7:50 pm

See clips from the film and a profile of director Deepa Metha at this link:

New Delhi (AFP) - A new film of Salman Rushdie's 1981 novel "Midnight's Children", which is set in India after independence, may not be released in the country, its director has said, blaming "insecure politicians". The adaptation, which has been showed at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada, is due for worldwide release in October or November, but has yet to find an Indian distributor. "Salman has often said that the book was his love letter to India. I think the film reflects that love," director Deepa Mehta told the Hindustan Times in Toronto. "What a pity if insecure politicians deprive the people of India (of the chance) to make up their own minds about what the film means," she said.
