U.S. Federal Reserve tapering won't damage Canadian economy, says Bank of Canada official

Goan Voice Canada – Commentary section (This issue)
Currently, the economic situation in India is grim. This is due in large part due to the monetary policy in Washington in what is termed “quantitative easing”. This means that the flood of dollars that kept the emerging markets buoyant are no longer available and this has manifested itself in a sinking rupee.

The eventual removal by the U.S. Federal Reserve of its monetary policy stimulus should be viewed positively, Bank of Canada Deputy Governor John Murray said on Tuesday in a rebuttal to critics who expect Fed tapering to reverberate negatively around the world.

Our Imperial Disdain For The Emerging World
By Zachary Karabell | August 23, 2013

August this year has been exceptionally unkind to the emerging world. We know that Egypt has been plunged into political and economic turmoil, yet that is only the most extreme case. Elsewhere, stories proliferate about economic slowdowns in Peru and China, and protests in Brazil and Turkey (among others).

Yet rather than viewing these events in the larger context of the past decade, the most common response is to write the obituary of emerging world development. As a lead article in the New

Canadian Goan Christian Group: "Evangelization of Youth"
By Rudy Fernandes

A Youth/Young Adult meeting and workshop was organized by the Canadian Goan Christian Group (CGCG) on Aug 22 2013 at St. Joseph's Church Hall in Mississauga in order to solicit youth input on key issues impacting the Catholic Church and provide their candid feedback on the CGCG "Evangelization of Youth" initiative. Only a minimum of CGCG members was present as "non-participating helpers". This 3 hour long workshop was a fine success, far exceeding our expectations in terms of attendance, input and youth participation/commitment/passion.

The Goan Cultural Group Celebrates WORLD GOA DAY

On August 21, 2013, at the Sq One Older Adult Centre, in Mississauga the Goan Cultural Group held a unique event depicting their Goan Culture and Heritage, covering both Goan history and present day Goa

The event commenced with a message of welcome by Juliet Rebello, informing the 50 or so attendees that today’s event was the culmination of a wish by the late Lewis Lawrence, who served as chairman of the centre for more than 25 years. He wanted to see his community represented actively at the Centre. The Goan Cultural Group has achieved this objective and is a meeting place for Goan Seniors every Wednesday evening. The Group also represents the community a the annual International Lunch held a the centre, and it’s volunteers played a pivotal role in collecting and assembling items for Goan Archives now stored in the Peel Art Gallery Museum & Archives.

The Lure Of A Distant Casino
By Armand Rodrigues

Yes, some of us like to try our luck at the slots. This, despite knowing that the odds are stacked against us. Perhaps the socializing aspect, and an outing, appeal to some for whom life would otherwise be mundane. Not to be forgotten is the fact that most seniors find that they are now in the enviable position of being left with disposable income, and get an urge to splurge. Hope springs eternal and, throwing caution to the wind, they try in vain to outwit the slot machines. Day-trips to area casinos are commonplace and the Westend Seniors’ Club usually gets a full coach for such jaunts.

Easy Ways to Make Your PC Run Like New

One of the most frustrating things in life is a slow computer.

Every few years, we buy an expensive new PC and love how fast it starts up, runs programs, and loads websites. Inevitably though, it starts to slow down until eventually we are pulling our hair out waiting for it to do routine tasks.

Why is this? It turns out the answer is actually quite simple and you don't even need to be "technical" to understand the causes and solutions.
