The Church Is Rooted In The Apostles But Looks To The Future

Vatican City, 16 October 2013 (VIS) – After considering the unity, holiness and catholicity of the Church, as defined by the Creed, the Holy Father today addressed her apostolic nature. During the catechesis of the Pope's general audience in St. Peter's Square, he stated that “to profess that the Church is apostolic means underlining her constitutive bond with the Apostles, with that small group of twelve men whom Jesus called to Him by name one day, to ask them to stay with Him and to send them to preach. Indeed, 'apostle' is a Greek word meaning 'messenger', 'envoy'.

Younger generation needs to slow down and not leave the elderly behind.

Thiruvananthapuram: Pope Francis has noted that among the Ten Commandments there is only one that promises a reward. If you honor your parents you will have long life. As I am currently working on a book on the Beatitudes I am prompted to reword this commandment as a Beatitude: Blessed are they that honor their parents, For they shall have long life.

Goan Archives Project Well Past Embryo Stage
By Armand Rodrigues

Time capsules come in different formats. To a geologist, core samples taken of the earth’s crust or an ancient glacier, can reveal a great deal about environmental factors that shaped our past. To an archaeologist, a shard of pottery is a durable memento of antiquity. To a Goan genealogist, pedigree derived from our centuries-old Aryan and Dravidian ancestry would be a primary study in the evolutionary process leading to where we are at today. And, archives become an indispensable repository of records and documents covering all facets of human activity and endeavour. Our heritage could be preserved on stone, papyrus, bamboo, silk or paper, and be naturally-generated, rather than be consciously created for posterity.

Dear Members and Friends,

The Nairobi South Cemetery was established in 1899 when the Uganda Railway moved its headquarters from Mombasa to Nairobi. It is situated off Uhuru Highway and consists of 3 parts – War Graves, a Jewish Cemetery and a Christian Cemetery. It is in the Christian part that there are about 150 Goans buried. The cemetery has now been gazetted as a Heritage Site. However, while this protects the site from ‘land grabbers’, the maintenance is the responsibility of the Nairobi City Council and us.
