On Dying and Living Forever
Source : Goanet Reader | By Shamika Andrade

Death never comes at the right time, despite what mortals believe. Death always comes like a thief. -- Christopher Pike

I was four years old when I saw death up close for the first time. My dad's youngest sister lay in the coffin. She died due to a heart defect. "She lived a long full life," they said, "in spite of her health condition."

Mojim Konknni Kolpona - Devanagiri o Romi?
(My Konknni thoughts – devanagiri or romi?)

By: Konkn’no Vijay Naik (Vince Leitao (vinceleitao@rogers.com)

Being about 25 years old then, I remember the Konkani language agitation well. There were roadbandhs, market shutdowns, various meetings, demonstrations, bhaxans etc. we had a family weddingtoo, and I was ded’do. The groom was from Kolongut (Calangute), and the bride from Suraulli (Seraulim) we had to send a bridal car from Kolongut to Suraulli. Recent murders in Kutt’tthali (Cortalim) made the regular route from North to South Goa extremely dangerous. Coconut trees were felled and placed across the road so nobody could travel through Kutt’tthali.

Let’s All Be Hindu Fundamentalists
June 6, 2013 • by mariawirthblog • in Uncategorized
Sent by Olavo Joanes – published in CANADIAN HINDU LINK – Vol 5 Issue 4

Religious fundamentalists are on the rise and that is bad for our societies. Most people will agree on this. Yet few examine who religious fundamentalists are. Obviously, such persons would want to stick to the fundamentals of their religion. They want to live a life that is advocated in their holy books and would please their God. Now, since religious fundamentalists pose a problem, does it mean that the fundamentals of religions are bad for our societies? Let’s look at the three biggest religions:

In Honour of Our Heroes

On November 11th, the veterans cry
Thinking of people who had to die
This is the day they fought in the war
The day of honour, we remember them for

Men and women were sad at heart
Afraid of war from the start
Even the brave fighters had a fear
Today their loved ones shed a tear

The Coffin Maker - Movie - YouTube
www.youtube.com/user/TheCoffinMakerFilm

A poignant story about a coffin maker in a small village in Goa who learns about life from a very unusual source!

Excerpt from Review by Deepa Deosthalee

In writer-director Veena Bakshi’s debut film, The Coffin Maker, Naseeruddin Shah rises from the ashes as Anton Gomes (the Chekhovian connection is purely intentional), the beedi-smoking, chess-playing tragic protagonist. A Goan carpenter forced to make coffins for a living, he’s embittered by life and determined to sulk and rant at everyone around, but especially his wife Isabella (Ratna Pathak-Shah, always, always stirring), herself nursing a lifelong migraine and forlorn expression, and son Joseph (Anand Tiwari) who the father considers a good-for-nothing but still wants to protect from his dreadful profession.
