The Case For Special Status Of Goa
By Antonio Lobo

The demand for a special provision in the Constitution where the Assembly would have the power to legislate in a manner which would protect laws that could otherwise be considered unconstitutional is neither idle nor whimsical. It comes from an anguished sense that Goa is on the road to ultimate destruction.

Canadian immigration law: too much red tape and no customer service
By R. Reis Pagtakhan, CBC News Updated: Sep 05, 2014

For decades now, Canadian governments of all stripes have promoted immigration as a tool for nation building, and one of the purposes of Canada’s immigration laws is "to support the development of a strong and prosperous Canadian economy." By: George Pinto
From the Joseph Naik Vaz Institute .....

Perhaps the most important event on the Goan Catholic calendar this year is the Mass at the Oratorian church, Chiesa Nuova in Rome on Sept 23 to celebrate the founding of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri in Goa in 1685 by Blessed Joseph Vaz, Apostle of Kanara and Sri Lanka. It celebrates not only his extraordinary sacrifices for the Catholics of Sri Lanka and for the Catholic Church but those of his Goan Oratorians for almost 150 years under Dutch persecution.

Foundation Laid For Jain Temple In Brampton

Hundreds of devotees with their family and friends lined up with their own bricks to lay down the foundation of auspicious Bhagwan 1008 Aadinatha Jain Temple that is being built on Mayfield Road (Mayfield and Gore Road) in Brampton last week. His holiness Bhattarka Charukirtiji and Pandit Dharm Chand Sastri conducted the special religious pooja befitting the event of purifying the land and laying down the foundation stone amid grand gala and chanting of ceremonial mantras.

This is the first Jain temple in Canada that is being built in the traditional temple format. A five and quarter feet high idol of Bhagwan Aadinath in sitting posture shall be installed in the temple. Aadinatah Bhagwan, also known as Rishbhadev is the first tirthankar of this era. Jains believe that Aadinath played the pivotal role in developing our civilization, teaching agriculture, tending the animals, and to work to achieve nobleness. This grand Jain temple will meet the spiritual and religious needs of all those who believe in the principles of non-violence; and in compassionate and eco-friendly living.

Stock up on citronella: It'll be gone soon
Health Canada orders ban on product for 2015 | By: Mia Rabson

Emmellie Velasco sprays herself with bug spray in Assiniboine Park earlier this summer. If there was citronella in the spray there won't be for much longer: Health Canada is banning it in all insect repellents by the end of the year. Photo Store

OTTAWA -- If you like citronella in your bug spray, you had better stock up before Christmas. After the New Year, you will not find it on any shelves because Health Canada says nobody has been able to sufficiently prove citronella is safe when applied to the skin. Citronella is an essential oil obtained from the lemongrass plant.

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency of Canada regulates and approves for use all insect repellent. In 2004, Health Canada made a move to phase out citronella insect repellents as part of a review of all pesticides that had been approved prior to 1995 to make sure they met modern health and environmental standards.
