The 75th anniversary of the Dr. Ribeiro Goan School took place over
the weekend starting Friday Sept. 12th and ending this Sunday evening.
An
enjoyable time was had by yours truly and witnessed the same by
others. The semi-permanent smiles borne by most over the three days
was testament to that fact.
On talking
to many of the people over the three days, the overall concensus
was that the anniversary celebrations were a great success. Kudos
to the Organizing Committee.
Friday
evening was a Meet & Greet occasion hosted by Kool-Kats Pub
and Grill at Mississauga. Les Ombres (Raymond de Mello's band -
class of '64) entertained us to 50's and 60's music while we drank
and started to renew our acquaintaces of our school years.
The highlight
of the re-union was the Dinner-Dance held last night. It was
well organized and ran very smoothly. I liked the idea of having
three different plates of hors d'ouvres and two bottles of wine
(white and red) on
every table and a splendidly decorated hall to welcome us when we
arrived. Nice touch!
The Dinner/Dance
was an elegant affair where the main activity was just meeting friends
and acquaintaces after a gap of almost 40 years. The sold-out event
was attended by many who had travelled from as far away as Australia.
Many had come from Europe. Maria Frazier (she was rewarded with
an Award of Excellence for her work as a nurse with the natives
in the frozen north) travelled all the way from Repulse Bay in the
North West Territories. What a pleasure it was to see the familiar
faces after such a long time. |
